NBC and Vista on a Full Online Coverage in Beijing

NBC is going full strength on Beijing Olympics by giving users online coverage to all its sports. However, only Vista users would be able to enjoy this. In an excerpt:

NBC announced two significant technology partnerships with Microsoft and Wavexpress today to provide 2008 Olympics coverage over the web. The new initiatives embody a natural evolution for Olympics coverage considering the times—but they’re available only to users of Vista or Silverlight.

Powered by Wavexpress’ TVTonic Internet video service and client, NBC Olympics on the Go will allow owners of Media-Center-capable Windows Vista PCs (that’s Home Premium and Ultimate) to download “up-to-HD” coverage on a sport-by-sport basis. Users can chose from a number of channels in Wavexpress’ TVTonic client that NBC’s coverage of the Beijing Games will be categorized into, and the NBC Olympics on the Go client will be able to access event coverage roughly 12 hours after an event ends. Ars Technica confirmed with Wavexpress that users will not be able to keep downloaded coverage indefinitely, though videos will remain playable at least for the duration of the games.

Bill Veghte, Microsoft Vice-president, quoted the launch date of Windows 7 by saying:

You have told us you want a more regular, predictable Windows release schedule.

Our plan is to deliver Windows 7 approximately three years after the January 2007 general availability launch date of Windows Vista.

You’ve also let us know you don’t want to face the kinds of incompatibility challenges with the next version of Windows you might have experienced early with Windows Vista.

Our goal is to ensure that the migration process from Windows Vista to Windows 7 is straightforward.

The more Microsoft announces the release of Windows 7, the more users would wait for it instead of upgrading to Windows Vista.

1. In the run command type gpedit.msc
2. Click Computer Configuration, then Administrative Templates, followed by Control Panel, and finally User Accounts (Image above)
3. Right-click on Apply the default user logon picture to all users
4. Click on Properties
5. Click the “Enabled” button (See image below)

Windows Mobile Gets Overhaul and New Name

The Windows Mobile website has undertaken a little bit (well, more like quite a bit) of an overhaul. Along with looking different and a new name “TotalAccess” though I couldn’t find a lot of “new” features or offerings that weren’t there before.

I’m wondering if anything with “Access” in the name works for Microsoft though. I immediately thought of Microsoft Office Access program, but it has nothing to do with that.

The one thing I was reminded of while perusing the site though was how much I’d really like to upgrade my PPC-6700 to the new Sprint Mogul. That would be really nice.

The other update I did notice was the option to install Silverlight for the site, which I ended up doing because there was a newer version of the application that I hadn’t installed yet. I restarted my browser (Firefox) and went back to the Windows Mobile TotalAccess site and was still prompted to download it and install? Do what? I just did that!
